Pulwama: The increasing numbers of stray dogs in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has become a cause of grave concern for the inhabitants.
People say the problem has assumed a serious dimension with concerned authorities turning a deaf ear to the public outcry.
People from Chadibug village and its adjacent areas said that herds of dogs can be seen on the prowl at various areas in the area.
They said that increasing number of these stray dogs is posing a grave threat to the life of people and the movement of people, especially children, elders and women.
“It has become extremely difficult for people especially children to move around during morning and evening hours,” locals said.
They alleged that the mysterious rise in dog population was due to their transportation from urban areas during night hours and dumping them in areas that have otherwise been ignored on various developmental fronts.
The locals alleged that the authorities are doing nothing to control the menace.
“Children are vulnerable for attacks by stray dogs which forced us to stop them from attending tuitions and even community classes,” Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident said.
When contacted, Additional deputy commissioner Tral Shabir Ahmad Raina said that he will take up the issue with the concerned authorities and steps will be taken to tackle this issue.
