FMD outbreak: Animal husbandry centre in Pulwama faces staff shortage
Pulwama: Amid the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD), a animal husbandry centre in Pulwama district is facing shortage of staff.
Locals from Monghama, Ashmander and Chewa Khurd villages of Pulwama said that a single employee is handling a centre of Animal husbandry department in Monghama which has to cater to three villages.
They said that as the foot and mouth disease is spreading in the area, a single employee is not able to reach to everyone due to which dozens of animals in the area have died.
They added that situation in past few days was so severe that he was unable to even treat the cattle who have fallen to the FMD disease.
The locals alleged that the staff shortage during the times of FMD outbreak has proved fatal for their livestock.
“If the employee has some work and he is unable to attend the centre, it remains closed due to which problems of the people further increase,” the locals said.
“We have brought this issue to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” they said.
An employee posted there also acknowledged that there is staff shortage and he has requested higher ups to send depute another Assistant there.
Chief Animal Husbandry officer Pulwama, Dr Mohammed Hussain said that some recruitments are under process and very soon the centre will get more employee so that locals won’t have to face any problem.
Notably, around three thousands animals have got effected by the foot and mouth disease in the district and among them around 300 have died.
