Anantnag: Residents of Gudidraman and its adjacent areas in Kokernag area of Anantnag district are demanding a better play field for the children and sportsmen.
Youth from the area alleged that there are two dozen villages in our area however, the entire belt lacks sports infrastructure due to which local youth are unable to participate in sports activities.
They said that few years back the administration had set up a stadium in the area but due to lack of infrastructure, nobody is playing there.
They added that last year even Rural Development Department released money for the repairment of the stadium but due to unknown reasons money wasn’t spend on it and it was allowed to lapse.
The youth said that the stadium needs proper leveling, fencing and other facilities so that local sportspersons and children can participate in sports activities.
They added that claims of government that they are engaging youth in sports activities are proving hoax on ground as no facilities are being given to them.
“We have brought this issue in notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail,” they added.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter so that local youth can be engaged in sports activities and they can be kept away from bad habits and drugs.
Block development officer Kokernag Muzzafar Ahmad assured that very soon the stadium will get better infrastructure and youth of the area will be engaged in sports activities.
