Anantnag: Even after a lapse of over five years a water supply scheme has not been completed in Aagnoo village in Dooru hamlet of outh Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Locals said that since last five years they have been waiting for completion of the water supply scheme to get potable water.
They said that water supply is almost complete but due to unknown reasons the final touches are not being initiated and the scheme commissioned.
“Around 1 crore and 75 lakh rupees have been spend on the water supply scheme but we are yet to get a single drop of water from it,” Zahoor Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that the mechanical part of the scheme is complete and the Jal Shakti has to carry out some works and start the scheme but due to unknown reasons they are not taking any initiative.
Locals said that they are forced to drink contaminated water due to which several people in the area often get infected from various water borne diseases.
They said that their women folk are forced to bring water from nearby canals which is highly contaminated.
Whenever we visit the office of executive engineer or assistant executive engineer, they assure that within one week the scheme will be functional but their assurances on ground prove mere hoax.
They once again requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can have a sigh of relief.
