Mughal Road closed due to landslide, reopens later
Poonch: Mughal road, connecting Shopian and Poonch-Rajouri districts, re-opened after remaining closed for few hours due to a massive landslide at Poshana along the thoroughfare, officials said on Monday.
They said the landslides occurred amid incessant rains from last several days in the area.
DTI Mughal Road Qasam Choudhary said that traffic was halted on either side of the road at Poshana following the landslide. Later, he said, the debris was cleared and traffic restored.
The historic road was opened for all types of vehicular traffic on July 5. Prior to the road was only allowed to be used for ferrying perishable items, mainly fruits.
“Subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs from both sides and HMVs (upto ten tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road,” a traffic official said, adding, “LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs., from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs & HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs. upto 1500 hrs.”
On July 5 the administration had also opened Sinthan-Kokernag road, which connects Anantnag district to Kishtwar, for civilian traffic. The particular road is open, officials said.
“Kishtwar- Sinthan road is through for both ways traffic of LMVs only, subject to fair weather and road condition.”
Regarding Jammu-Srinagar Highway, the traffic officials there shall be no traffic movement on the thoroughfare from either side in view of maintenance and repairing on Wednesday.
“On Tuesday, subject to fair weather and better road condition, LMVs(Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.”
Regarding Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road, the official said subject to fair weather and good road condition, only one way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed from Sonamarg at 0700 hours upto 1500 hours on August 3. “No Vehicle shall be allowed before & after cut off timing.” (GNS)
