Shopian-Aharbal road in shambles, allege locals

Shopian: A very vital and shortest road to famous tourist spot Aharbal from Shopian via Sedow is in dilapidated conditions, allege the locals demanding immediate mecadamisation of the all important road.
Locals from the Sedow hamlet said that the road is in shambles since past several years due to which tourists are forced to take longer routes.
They said that the 4 km long stretch from Sedow to Aharbal is in a bad condition due to the frequent erosion of the road.
“Besides the road is very narrow due to which traffic jams have become the order of the day on the route,” Niyaz Ahmad, a local resident said.
“Due to narrow width and dilapidated conditions, locals as well as tourists are forced to take long routes,” he added.
Shabir Ahmad, another resident of Sedow said that as most people prefer other routes due to bad condition of the route, the economy of the area is getting affected.
“We have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” he said.
Locals have again requested higher ups to look into the matter and macadamize the road at an earliest.

Executive Engineer R&B Shopian, Farooq Ahmad while acknowledging that the road is in shambles due to soil erosion added that matter of repairing the road lies with the forest department.
“Once we will get a nod from their side, it will be repaired besides that the matter of upgradation of road lies with higher ups,” he added.
