Indian, Pakistani armies exchange sweets along LoC in Kashmir on Eid-ul-Adha
Srinagar, Jul 21 (PTI) Indian and Pakistani armies on Wednesday exchanged sweets at two places along the Line of Control in Kashmir on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, the first time since 2019.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha and as a gesture for promoting peace, harmony and compassion in the true spirit of the festival, India and Pakistan armies held a flag meeting and exchanged sweets at Kaman Aman Setu, Uri and Tithwal Crossing on Kishanganga River in Tangdhar, Kupwara, a defence spokesperson said here.
The exchange of sweets along the line of control on major festivals of India and Pakistan has been a feature of the engagement between the two armies but the events were stopped in 2019 following the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed
The spokesperson said the event has been held when both the Armies have been strictly following the February ceasefire agreement along the LoC.
India and Pakistan had on February 25 this year released a joint statement announcing a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, following talks between their Directors General of Military Operations.
The two countries had earlier signed a ceasefire agreement in 2003 but it was repeatedly violated leading to deaths and injuries to civilians and troops on either side.
