Anantnag: The multi crore Bijbehara-Sirhama road project is awaiting completion since the last six years even though the project would have benefitted dozens of villages directly.
Locals from Bijbehara, Mehand, Wopzan, Sheetipora, Hayar, Kandipora, K Kalan, Sirhama and its adjacent areas said that despite the project being started some six years but since then the PMGSY department has failed to complete it.
They said that around six years back PMGSY department finished widening of the road all along the Bijbehara-Sirhama which heavily worsened the condition of the road but most patches of the road are yet to get macadamized.
“Big patches of the road near Kandipora, Wopzan and Kandipora are in very bad condition and most of the private vehicles avoid travelling on it and the patches which were macadamized have also developed cracks in less than a year,” locals said.
Officials said that due to the compensation issues at some places and delay of PHE and PDD department in shifting water pipeline and electric poles it took more time that should have otherwise been consumed.
They said that compensation issue has been solved but at some places still pipeline hasn’t been shifted which is hindering the restoration work.
Locals said that all departments must cooperate with each other so that public won’t have to suffer for long.
They requested District Magistrate Anantnag to personally look into the matter so that the departments are asked to co-ordinate and plan in a professional manner so that the important project is completed at an earliest.
When contacted, Executive Engineer PMGSY, Khalid Hussain said that road will be completed very soon.
