Anantnag: The residents of Chirpora village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag on Tuesday staged a protest against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide drinking water to their area.
The people of Gujjar Basti, Chirpura, Shangus area of Anantnag, protested against the water shortage in the area as according to them they are facing lot of problems
Locals while protesting said that a water reservoir was constructed 10 years back in the area but till date the village hasn’t got potable water supply.
They said that village has been kept deprived of the water despite that the village is just half a kilometre away from the resorvoir through which other villages are getting regular supply.
“Since decades the village is suffering in absence of water and despite bringing this issue in notice of concerned authorities several times nothing has been done on ground,” they said.
They accused the Jal Shakti department that despite knowing the problems faced by the locals they have been giving a deaf ear to their repeated pleas.
They urged LG Administration and District Administration Anantnag to look into the matter and resolve the issue at an earliest
On contacting concerned AEE, Zameer Ahmad he said that the area is at a high altitude so it is a bit difficult to get water there.
He said that they have already proposed a project to ensure water supply to the area.
“Until the project is approved, water tankers are being sent to the village to provide them water on temporary basis till a permanent arrangement is made,” he added.
