Hirpora Shopian residents seek construction of bridge
Shopian: The residents of Hirpora area on Mughal road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded construction of a bridge over a stream.
The village which houses dozens of households, mostly living below the poverty line is located at a distance of around 10 kilometers from district headquarters on the famous Mughal road.
Locals said that the wooden makeshift bridge over the stream has been posing a serious threat to the lives of the villagers’ particularly women and children.
The makeshift bridge is of no use to us, children avoid going out, as it may turn out to be a death trap for them, they said
The makeshift bridge has been made over the fast flowing stream and the authorities do not even bother to start work on the concrete bridge which was approved in year 2019.
They said that no one is paying attention to their grievances as their pleas have been falling on deaf ears.
The elected representatives of the erstwhile state have too betrayed us as they have reneged on their promise after getting votes, said Nazir Ahmad a local resident.
He said that hundreds of people of the area put their lives in danger by crossing the makeshift bridge over the fast flowing stream.
The locals said that they have been repeatedly demanding the construction of a concrete bridge over the stream to mitigate their sufferings.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
