Kulgam residents protest dumping of garbage near Vishow Nallah
Kulgam: The residents of different areas of Kulgam district on Saturday staged a protest against the authorities for dumping garbage on the banks of nallah Vishow.
They said that the municipal committee has turned the nallah into dumping site due to which the water of the nallah has got polluted.
They added that since decades the entire dirt and garbage of the district is being dumped on the banks of Nallah Vishow in Kulgam which is littering the water body and the people living along the Nallah and those who are dependent on this Nallah its water are unable to use it.
“If the Municipal Committee has now decided to turn the river bank as a dumping site it must at least, build a wall around the dumping site so that the water body won’t get polluted,” said Assadullah, a local resident.
He said that since last two decades they have been continuously taking up this issue with the higher ups but to no avail.
He added that if the MC fails to take any action in coming days, the whole population of the area will come on roads.
Locals said that as site is open, the foul smell coming from the site has made life of the people living near to miserable.
“Besides that locals the commuters too are facing problems as stray dogs are also rampant in the area,” the protestors said.
They demanded that the government must install solid waste management plant and build a wall around the site at an earliest so that locals can feel relaxed and water bodies can be saved.
An official of the concerned committee said that work on solid waste management plan and fencing will start soon.
