Encourage community radio stations
It is laudable that Nashik’s community radio station, Radio Vishwas, won two honours at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s 8th National Community Radio Awards.
In the COVID-19 era, Radio Vishwas 90.8 earned first place in the Sustainability Model Awards category and second place in the Thematic Awards category for their radio programme ‘Education for All.’ For 14 hours each day, the channel broadcasts educational programs in Hindi, English, Marathi, and Sanskrit.
Because of the Coronavirus outbreak, poor pupils are unable to buy smart phones for digital education. The Shikshan Sarvansathi project was started with the support of 150 teachers who taped lectures in the studio.
The lectures were then broadcast in the order that they were assigned to each subject. The initiative was well-received by the intended audience, with an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 children from municipal and zila panchayat schools benefiting.
Community radio stations played an important role in communication during the COVID 19 pandemic. For social change, development, and upliftment of impoverished parts of society, these ratio stations should be encouraged
