Right move to connect rural India
The Central Government’s decision to adopt a revamped BharatNet implementation strategy in 16 states via Public Private Partnership (PPP) is commendable.
This approval includes the states of Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Beyond Gram Panchayats, BharatNet will now cover all inhabited villages. The PPP Model aims to accelerate the rollout of BharatNet by leveraging private sector efficiency in terms of operation, maintenance, utilisation, and income generation.
BharatNet’s expansion to all inhabited villages with dependable, high-speed internet would improve access to e-services provided by various Central and State Government entities. It is hoped that the fastest internet connection will empower rural India by boosting online education, livelihood, and transparency on various levels.
