Eight years on, vital bridge in Kulgam awaits completion
Anantnag: Even after the passage of over eight years, the residents of Kund hamlet of Kulgam district continue to suffer as Road and Building department in the district has failed to complete construction works on a vital bridge.
The residents of Oriel Kund area accused R&B department of failing to complete the under-construction bridge in their area, resulting in severe hardships to the inhabitants.
They said that eight years back a bridge was sanctioned to provide connectivity to Kund hamlet to Qazigund area but as of now it continues to remain a dream.
The residents also said that most of the work on the bridge has been already completed but part of it is pending due to which locals are suffering.
“We are unable to understand when over 70 percent of the work has been already completed the concerned department is not serious to finish the remaining work,” said Masroor Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that bridge will connect a vast area of Kund Kulgam to Qazigund and will help the people in saving their time and resource they loose while travelling using long distance roads.
He said that the bridge once completed would significantly shorten the distance between Kund to Qazigund and it will help commuters to reach their respective destinations on time.
The locals have now requested higher ups to look into the matter and complete the pending civil works on the bridge at an earliest so that locals can have sigh of relief.
On contacting Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Qazigund, Er Aijaz he said that due to the lack of funds the work on this vital bridge has been put on hold despite the fact that a major portion of the work has been already completed.
“We have already informed higher ups in this regard and hopefully it will be completed soon,” he said.
