Shopian: A dog was found dead in a water tank that is the main source to supply piped water to several villages in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, locals said Tuesday.
Locals from Kamdulan Shopian said that they found a dog floating on water reservoir at around 8 am on Tuesday after which they removed the carcass from it.
They said that water from this water tank is being supplied to various villages in the area.
“This is very shocking that the dogs are making way to the water tank through which water is being supplied to around half a dozen villages,” they added.
They said that scheme in the village is very old now and the tank has developed cracks due to which it is possible that any animal can fall into it.
The locals requested the higher ups to look into the issue and repair the reservoir so that such incidents do not happen in future.
On contacting Irfan Ahmad, Executive Engineering Jal Shakti department Shopian, he said that dog had slipped into pre-settling tank and not the main reservoir as the Nomadic families living nearby the tank had forgot to close the gate after getting the water. He said that he himself visited the spot and process of disinfecting the tank after emptying the tank has been done and work for repairment has also been initiated.
He said that the nomadic families have also been shifted from the spot so that such incidents won’t be repeated in future.
