Anantnag: People of Pashwara in Anantnag are up in arms against the PHE department saying that they are facing severe shortage of water.
Locals said that some selfish elements in different areas of Anantnag district were wasting potable drinking water indiscriminately as a result of which other people are deprived of drinking water while as supply pipes are leaking in different areas of the town.
They added that precious water is getting wasted and this issue is not being addressed by the concerned department.
“We are facing severe shortage of potable drinking water as 20 years back PHE had installed four inch water pipes. Now the population has increased by more than 50 percent but the pipes are still the same,” Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that apart from cleaning roads, potable drinking water is being used for various construction works as a result of which other people in the area are deprived of clean drinking water.
Some people even use potable piped water to irrigate the gardens and kitchen gardens, he alleged.
People of the area have appealed to the top officials of the PHE department to intervene in this regard and prevent wastage of potable water.
