Encounter breaks out in Sgr outskirts

Srinagar: An encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Maloora area of Parimpora in Srinagar district on Monday, reports said.

They said that a joint team of Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in Maloora Parimpora on Monday afternoon after reports of militant presence in the area.

As the joint team of forces approached towards a suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of firing between militants and security forces.

As the gunfight ensued an assistant commandant of CRPF, a Sub Inspector of the paramilitary force and a jawan suffered injuries who were later shifted to a hospital.

They said that the officer was identified as Satender Kumar. Earlier Mohammad Waseem (constable) and a sub inspector Shivam Kumar sustained bullet injuries and were shifted to army hospital at Badamibagh Srinagar and SMHS here respectively.

Confirming the injuries to CRPF men, a police officer said that the “operation” was continuing and so far no militant has been killed.

Meanwhile, the entire area has been brought under cordon as many families including children and women have been evacuated from the area, sources said.

They said that forces have tightened the cordon around the encounter sight and gunshots are being still heard in the area.
