Srinagar: The delimitation commission constituted by the Government of India to fix boundaries for Assembly segments in Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory would also seek feedback from the general public on its proposals, officials said.
They said that the delimitation commission would seek suggestions and objections from general public and hold public sittings before finalising its proposals.
“The process of collecting feedback from public would start once the panel prepares draft proposals. Before unveiling them, the draft proposals would be sent to each of the associate members (AMs) and they may give a dissenting note in respect of any of the draft proposals,” they said.
According to officials, the draft proposals would be published along with the dissenting notes, if any, submitted by the associate members.
“The commission would then seek suggestions and objections from the public over the proposals,” they said, adding that after the last date for submitting suggestions and objections is over, the commission will hold public sittings at different places in J&K.
Subsequently, the commission will hold a final meeting to consider all suggestions received in writing as well as orally made at the public sittings and decide the modifications that are required to be made to the draft proposals and prepare a final order.
“After the final orders are published, the President of India will issue a notification specifying a date from which the orders shall come into force,” they said.
Notably, a three-member panel headed by former Supreme Court Judge, Justice (retd.) Ranjana Desai was constituted in March 2020 to fix boundaries for Assembly segments of J&K. (KNO)
