Civilian killed in grenade blast in Sgr

Srinagar: A 30-year-old civilian was killed and three persons including a woman were injured during a grenade blast in Barbarshah area of Srinagar on Saturday, officials said.

They said that suspected militants hurled the grenade at an iron-shield bunker manned by one personnel in the area. The device exploded near the bunker, causing injuries to four persons, one of them a non-local woman who is seen in the CCTV video footage, released later, running for life.

The injured were shifted to hospital. However, one of them identified as Mudasir Ahmad of Hanji Gund Beerwah succumbed to injuries at SMHS hospital, a police officer said.

The other injured –Hilal Ahmad of Illahi Bagh Srinagar, Shahid Ahmad Son of Nazir Ahmad Khan of Rainawari and Shakeela (non local) of UP are admitted in hospitals—SMHS and SKIMS.

Meanwhile, police and CRPF cordoned off the entire area in a bid to arrest the attacker(s) besides concerned started investigations into the incident.

“Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this (incident).

Meanwhile, suspected militants on Saturday evening hurled a petrol bomb at a police party in Chandkote Hygam area in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Official sources said that there was no casualty reported in the incident. Soon, reinforcements of police and other security forces reached the spot and cordoned off the area in a bid to nab the attackers.

Confirming it, a senior police officer said that there was no loss of life or injury reported in the incident. (with inputs from GNS)
