Windstorm, heavy downpour leaves people running for cover
Sopore: Strong windstorm followed by heavy downpour on Thursday afternoon left people running for cover in north Kashmir areas. The strong winds also uprooted many trees damaging eclectic wires at various place, witnesses said.
Locals of various areas including Sopore, Baramulla, Sangrama, Pattan, Zaingeer and other adjacent areas said that windstorm and heavy rains which continue for more than 15 minutes created panic among the residents and pedestrian as scores of tress were uprooted.
The trees came collapsing down at some places at Delina, Kantbagh and Sangrama on Sopore -Baramulla highway which affected the movement of traffic for hours, they said.
However, but no loss of life or injury was reported during the rains, witnesses added.
They said that due to strong winds, electricity has been shut in many areas of the district.
