Pulwama: The life supporting machines at District hospital Shopian are lying defunct as there is no trained staff available at the hospital to run these life supporting units.
An official said that Covid-19 patients requiring ventilators are being referred to Territory care hospitals as ventilators four in number at district hospital are lying defunct.
He said that due to the lack of the anaesthetic assistants and other technicians, the life supporting machines are defunct as they are not being put to use.
He further added that most of the patients requiring ventilation support were referred to Tertiary care hospitals during second wave of Covid-19.
He further added that posts of lab assistant, ECG assistant and ward boys are lying vacant which needs to be filed immediately.
Shopian reported less cases during the second wave of Covid-19, had there been more cases in the district, condition would have been different as there is staff shortage at the hospital, said a medic posted at the hospital.
He said government has done many things since last two years but have neglected district hospital Shopian.
An official who wished not to named said that they have taken up these issues with the higher ups several times but nothing has been done so far.
