Water scarcity hits Tral town, Jal Shakti department clueless
Pulwama: Residents of Bon Mollah in Tral town of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for failing to provide them drinking water since the past two weeks, reports said.
The protestors said they are being forced to fetch water from nearby streams which poses a serious threat for the local population as the fear of an infection spread always looms large on them.
They said that basic facilities like potable water is not being provided to important townships and this attitude of the authorities makes it amply clear as to what people living in far off areas must be witnessing.
They said that 15 days have passed since the supply got disconnected but the concerned department has failed to take any concrete step in this regard due to which locals of the area are suffering.
Junaid Ahmad, a local resident said that dozens of households from the area are without drinking water from the last 15 days and despite informing Jal Shakti department officials several times no heed is paid towards their request.
