CUK launches Lab Journal ‘DCJ Times’

Ganderbal: Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Wednesday launched its first lab journal “DCJ Times.”
The inaugural function was held at Green Campus here wherein Vice Chancellor Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir, Registrar Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Finance Officer, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, Dean School of Media Studies Prof (Dr.) Shahid Rasool, HOD Dr. Arif Nazir and student editorial committee members were present. Other faculty members and students of the department participated in the function through online mode.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir congratulated the Department for its efforts in launching the first-ever journal and all those associated with it. He said that good research leads to good knowledge and it is easy to launch a journal, but difficult to sustain its quality. He said the press is 4th Pillar of democracy and it has a role to play in society. He said the journal will give practical exposure to the students pursuing journalism where they can highlight various social issues prevalent in the society.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, advised the students to make the most of such opportunities. “Media is a mirror of the society and is linking people across the globe, therefore, students have lot of opportunity provided they are ready to exploit such career options,” he said, adding, “By getting chances to meet the eminent personalities from academia and media professionals, students can broaden their horizons and get exposure beyond their classrooms.”
Finance Officer, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka, also congratulated the Department and assured that the University will provide every possible help to the department to carry out such activities.
Dean School of Media Studies, Prof. Shahid Rasool welcomed the Vice Chancellor and other guests and presented the detailed report of the news journal and its importance in journalism studies, particularly for the students aspiring to be journalists. He praised the Student Editorial Committee members for their efforts in designing and editing the journal amid Covid lockdown and gave details of the initiatives being taken by the department and university for the promotion of knowledge and research education.
Head Department Dr. Arif Nazir proposed the vote of thanks and also briefed about the future events being planned by the department.
