Shopian: The residents of Chanjemarg, Dobjan, Shadab Karewa and its adjacent areas in Shopian on Saturday staged protest and demanded road connectivity and linking their villages to the historic Mughal road.
The residents while raising slogans in favour of their demand appealed higher authorities to construct the road at an earliest as the road will help in the development of the area.
A protestor said that since last one decade, they have been moving from pillar to post seeking construction of the road but authorities are not paying any heed to our demand.
He said that every time we are being assured that work on the road will start soon but their assurances on ground proving a mere hoax.
Another protestor said that last year a team from the local administration visited here and all documents were completed for the construction of the road.
He said that approval, DIPR and even tendering has been done but due to unknown reasons the work hasn’t been started even today.
Locals said that they were used by politicians as after getting the votes, they never bothered to visit the area and help the people by redressing their genuine grievance.
They said that area is a backward region and lacks on the developmental fronts.
They added that they have been taken up the issue even with the present officials but o far their demands have not been met.
The locals requested higher ups to look into the matter and start work on the road at an earliest so that they can have a sigh of relief.
