Flight operations reduced from 45 to 15 flights

Srinagar: Amid a spike in Covid-19 cases in Kashmir, and other parts of India, footfall at Srinagar International Airport has come down to a record low of 75 percent, while daily flight movements have reduced to around 15, said an official.
A senior official at the Srinagar Airport said that after the spike in Covid-19 cases in the valley, “the footfall at the Srinagar Airport has gone down by 75 percent with a footfall of around 2000 per day.”
The official said, with the sharp decrease in the footfall at Srinagar Airport, the daily flights movements have also come down from 45 to around 15 flights on a daily basis. However, the night and cargo flight services are still actively operating from the Airport.
“Under the Covid guidelines all services are intact at Srinagar Airport, however it is just the footfall which has come down in view of the prevailing Covid-19 situation in Kashmir and other parts of the country,” he said.
Tourism activities had gained pace and addition of night flights recorded a footfall of around 12000 at the airport, after which more airlines were mulling to start the night flight operations.
However, with the resurgence of Covid-19 hitting badly the valley including the other parts of the country, the daily footfall came down with around 1000 arrivals and 1000 departures.
Officials further said that airport authorities are ensuring all the Covid-19 SOPs and guidelines are followed and all the inbound passengers are tested on arrival for Covid-19 by the health officials deputed at the airport. (KNO)
