Ensure safe cremations
The Centre Government has directed States to prevent the dumping of dead bodies in rivers and focus on their safe disposal and providing support for ensuring dignified cremation. This is the most undesirable and alarming situation in the country to witness dead bodies in the rivers.
Stopping the dumping of dead bodies, as well as their safe disposal and protection of water quality, has to be attended to on a war footing. There is a need to strengthen enforcement, maintain vigil and also take proactive action to facilitate and support the families for the cremation of dead bodies.
The need of the hour is that authorities should spread awareness with the riverside communities on the use of river water and to prevent such incidents of dumping of bodies in the river. Society needs to ensure the safe and dignified cremations of the deceased.
