Shopian: With most automatic teller machines (ATMs) shut in south Kashmir’s Shopian district for weeks, banks have turned over crowded.
People from different areas of Shopian said that the ATMs have been closed at most places of the district due to which they are forced to visit banks for withdrawal of money.
They said that one can see long queues at the banks amid the steep surge in Covid-19 but ATM continue to remain closed.
“Where would we get the cash when the ATMs are running cashless,” they said adding that government must look into the matter.
They said that authorities are causing unnecessary crowding by leaving ATMs cashless.
The locals requested authorities to refill cash chests at the ATMs so that there won’t be unnecessary gathering at the banks.
Pertinently, ATMS in Shopian are cashless after one of them was looted by unknown burglars on March 22
