Pulwama: The residents of Pulwama town in south Kashmir are aghast over the proposed move to shift the proposed indoor stadium from main town Pulwama to any far off place.
Notably, the indoor stadium is part of the proposal under which three indoor stadiums were sanctioned which includes one at Banjwah Tral, one at Rajpora Pulwama and third one in Pulwama town.
Sources said that the stadiums at Tral and Rajpora have been completed but the one that was to be constructed in Pulwama town has not materialized so far.
They said that the authorities are now mulling to shift the proposed stadium to Kakapora area.
Muzaffar Ahmad, a local resident expressed his reservations about the plan of shifting the proposed indoor stadium.
“First priority should be given to the main town as it is the centre of the district,” he said.
Another local activist, Muzammil Manzoor, said many such projects which were ‘wrongfully snatched’ from the main town.
“This is an illogical decision as town area comes with easy access for all residents as compared to travelling to some far-off village,” he said, demanding that the indoor stadium should come up in the main town area.
Meanwhile, the locals also appealed the concerned authorities to reconsider their decision.
Nuzhat Ara, Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir said that the matter was brought to her notice just some days ago and she is looking into it.
She assured that all stakeholders will be taken on board before arriving on any decision.
