Sopore: Scores of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers staged a protest against UT government on Saturday, demanding incentives, better pay and protection from disease amid raging coronavirus crisis across country.
While shouting slogans the protesting workers alleged that government has forgotten to admit the names of ASHA workers in approved special financial incentives list which was recently announced by it in favour of Covid-19 warriors of the health workers including doctors and other paramedics who are rendering valuable services in the challenging pandemic covid-19.
They said that since they are involved in collecting coronavirus- related data and following up with patients, they should also get the incentives.
The workers also said that they had to undertake difficult journeys for work.
“In some places, we faced lot of difficulty while reaching households, especially in containment Zones,” an ASHA Worker, Aliya said.
She said that the government has offered benefits to corona warriors like Doctors, medical officers, paramedical, nursing staff, drivers and class IV employees only, but the ASHA workers have been ignored.
“We are already worked on minimum wages which is not sufficient. We appeal the LG to increase our monthly wages and also mention us in special financial incentives,” the proteting workers said.
