Dooru residents rue water shortage, stage protest

Anantnag: The residents of Dooru area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district staged protest against against the PHE department for failing to provide drinking water to their area during the month of Ramzan.
The protesters carrying took empty pots and vessels and expressed their anger against the department for failing to provide potable water to the residents.
They alleged that there was a severe shortage of drinking water in their area for several months, due to which they face troubles.
The protestors said that they are without drinking water from past couple of months and the concerned department is watching as a mute spectator
“We are being forced to consume contaminated water even during this holy month of Ramadan, which has affected our health,” said a local.
“We have moved from pillar to post but to no avail,” he added.
Locals added that they have visited offices of higher ups in this regard umpteen times but to no avail.
They said that even during the holy days of Ramadan, the local population was longing for a drop of water.
They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and provide drinking water to the area so that locals may heave a sigh of relief.
When contacted, Firdous Ahmad, Executive Engineer PHE, assured that the water supply in the area would be restored soon.
In addition, water tankers will be made available for the area till supply will be restored, he added.
