Anantnag: The macadam laid on Naina-Awantipora via Dogripora road which was laid in month of September-October last year has got damaged which raises questions over the use of the material while constructing the road.
Locals from Kawani, Dogripora and its adjacent areas on Wednesday alleged that macadam laid on the road after around a decade didn’t last for even six months.
They said that soon after the macadamisation the road developed cracks at multiple spots and grooves surfaced all over the road.
They said that the condition of the road at most of the places is very bad and it seems that the oad has not been mecadamised for years.
“The road is again in very dilapidated condition and is giving a tough time to the commuters,” Shahid Ahmad, a local resident alleged.
He said the matter must be investigated and action must be taken against the erring officials and the contractor.
Interestingly, the locals accused PMGSY for using substandard materials due to which the blacktopping suffered erosion in no time.
“They had macadamised the road only three inches deep instead of eight inches,” another resident, Mushtaq Ahmad said.
He added that Naina-Awantipora is a vital road on which hundreds of vehicles ply each day.
The residents of the area appealed to higher ups of PMGSY department to look into the matter and take erring officials to task.
Executive Engineer PMGSY Er Muzaffar Ahmad said that road might have got damaged in winter at some places.
He said that road will be repaired wherever it has got damaged in coming few weeks.
