The residents said despite widening the network of bank branches in the Valley and also in south Kashmir, the J&K Bank have not installed any ATM in the Tehsil.
Customers of the JK Bank said that they have been provided ATM cards by the bank but they cannot avail the facility in the absence of ATM machine in their locality.
Bank officials and all district administrations have maintained a significant silence on the issue, which has raised concerns in public circles, they added.
A branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank was opened in Aripal six years ago, which brought relief to the people of this remote area. However, there is no ATM in the area, the locals said.
Muhammad Yousuf Khan, a local resident said that the people are facing severe problems due to lack of ATMs. Although the bank is here but there is no ATM machine and no one listens to the public in this regard.
Farooq Ahmed, another resident said that amid Covid-19 people of Aripal are forced to go to Tral during the bank holidays.
“You have to withdraw money from there and if you want to withdraw two hundred rupees, you have to spend Rs 100 as fare,” he rued.
“We are facing difficulty due to the non-availability of ATM”, locals said adding that the Aripal Tehsil has around 50 villages but no ATM facility.
The locals demanded that the JK Bank should install ATM in the area, so that they can avail the benefits of withdrawing cash according to their convenience.
