Pulwama: Even after elapsing of over a decade, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is awaiting completion.
Official sources said that from the past three years the construction work has been put on halt as there are no funds available for its construction.
They said that new building was sanctioned in year 2009-10 with an aim to provide a proper space and facilities for teachers training. The work was entrusted to R&B department to complete the project.
They further added that since then 11 years have passed but the building is still incomplete forcing teachers to use a shabby room of a local higher secondary school as their training centre.
Sources said that during the initial period of the project, there wasn’t any shortage of funds, however, once government changed in 2014-15, the funds flow started drying up.
An official of the R&B department said that due to the shortage of funds, the work was put on halt several times and if we set out to make a building as per the project, it will require double the sanctioned cost now.
He said that the department has already forwarded fresh project report but so far higher ups haven’t responded in this regard.
He added that they are hopeful that very soon action will be taken as payments of contractors for the project is also pending.
