Ashmuqam residents demand widening of Ashmuqam-Ainoo road

Anantnag: The residents of Ashmuqam and its adjacent areas in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have demanded widening of narrow Ashmuqam-Ainoo road.
Locals said that the narrow road is often leading to traffic jam and mishaps as the administration has over the years failed to address the issue.
They said that the road is hardly 10 ft wide which is not enough for two-way traffic.
“Due to the narrowness the road witnesses traffic jam for hours causing problems for hundreds of commuters,” Niyaz Ahmad, a local commuter rued.
He said that the road remains very busy as it leads to Ashmuqam shrine and even a small drizzle leads to water logging due to which dozens of accidents have been reported on the road.
“Due to the narrowness of the road, the people travelling by foot are unable to move alongside the road as it is unsafe to walk along the road when there is two way traffic,” Nazir Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that the residents have brought the issue into the notice of concerned higher ups several times but to no avail.
The existing road is in dilapidated condition as it is full of potholes thereby causing inconvenience to the commuters and locals, the locals said.
They have now requested deputy commissioner Anantnag and authorities of R&B department to look into the matter and repair and upgrade the road at an earliest.
