Progress on Craft Tourism Village Kanihama reviewed

BUDGAM: Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Khan Monday chaired a meeting at DC office Complex here to take stock of works and progress in Craft Tourism Village Kanihama, Budgam.
At the outset, the chair was informed that 27 beneficiaries have been identified who shall be allotted weavers sheds. It was also informed that the repair and renovation of weaver sheds in Craft village has also been started.
The meeting was informed that the beautification work of Kanihama Craft Tourism Village is on full swing which includes construction of drains, internal lanes and Display cum sales counter.
It was revealed in the meeting that web portal and software application has been designed and developed to promote online sale of products manufactured at Craft Village.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairman said that Kanihama place known for world famous Kani Shawls is a unique heritage which should be preserved, located on Highway makes it more significant to attract many tourists who throng to Gulmarg.
Taking strong note of some discrepancies/irregularities, DDC Chairman instructed to set up a committee which shall investigate and verify again inclusion and exclusion of the list of beneficiaries to be allotted weaver shed. The DDC further instructed concerned to submit proposals regarding inclusion of Batpora and Mazhama villages in Craft Tourism Village in the Second Phase.
The meeting among others was also attended by DDC members, ADC Budgam, ACD, Representative from Union Ministry of Textiles, A.D Handloom & Handicrafts, Ex, Engineer REW, other officials concerned and public delegations from Kanihama, Batpora & Mazhama.
