Anantnag: The residents of Lisser Shalnard village in Kokernag area of Anantnag are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide drinking water facility to the area.
Locals said that even in 21st century, they have to walk miles together to bring water which is highly contaminated and still the administration is not providing any relief to the locals.
“There are around 50 households living in the area and the irony is that the Jal Shakti department has never paid attention to this small village and have kept it still devoid of potable water,” the locals said.
They added that there is a single tap that is connected to an underground water pipe and this tap provides water to the entire village.
“How can a single tap provide drinking water to the whole village? We are forced to bring water from nearby stream, which is highly contaminated,” Lateef Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that the village has never received potable drinking water as the administration has never bothered to connect the village with the nearby water supply schemes.
“We have been repeatedly pleaded before the concerned authorities to resolve our problem but no one has listed to our woes,” he added.
The locals have now requested the Lt Governor lead administration to look into the matter at an earliest and provide drinking water facilities to the area so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
