Bijbehara: The residents of Shalgam village in Bijbehara belt of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have appealed health authorities to upgrade a local dispensary as the area lacks basic health facilities.
Locals said that a dispensary was set up in 1986 at Shalgam and since then every year they are promised that the dispensary will be upgraded but as of now nothing has been done.
They said that area lacks basic health care facilities as there are no facilities available at the dispensary forcing locals to visit district hospital for even minor ailments.
“We are forced to turn either to SDH Bijbehara or DH Anantnag for even minor ailments as the two nurses posted at the dispensary remain present there for a day or two as they have been posted at other places as well,” said Suhail Ahmad a local resident.
He said that the village has a population of about 15,000 souls but has been neglected by successive governments on all fronts.
Locals requested the concerned higher ups to look into the matter and make special arrangements for basic health care facilities in the area so that they won’t be forced to visit different health centres.
Chief Medical Officer Anantnag Mukhtar Ahmad Shah said that he will direct BMO concerned to inspect the dispensary and if there will be feasibility for the uprgradation of the dispensary, all possible step for its uprgradation will be taken.
