Srinagar: Srinagar is one of 46 hotspot districts in India showing an exponential rise of COVID-19 cases, officials said.
They said that 46 districts in India contribute over 70 per cent of cases and deaths of the total since first March 2021.
They said that out of 46 deaths, 25 are from Maharashtra, four from Gujarat, three each from Haryana and Tamil Nadu, two each from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and one each from Delhi, J&K, Karnataka, Punjab and Bihar.
Pertinently, Srinagar has been witnessing the highest resurge in Covid-19 cases and out of 2,110 active cases, 908 are from Srinagar.
Meanwhile, experts warned authorities that on one side they are asking to follow Covid appropriate behaviour and on the other hand the administration is allowing music concerts and large gathering at different places which can have serious connotations.
Doctors Association President and Flu expert Dr Nisar Ul Hassan said that these things can’t go hand in hand and authorities must take cognizance of it.
He said that new waves will continue to attack us until we have herd immunity.
“Authorities must speed up the vaccination process as around 90 per cent of the population is yet to be vaccinated who are still susceptible to infection,” he added.
He said that people aren’t following Covid-19 protocols and allowing concerts is adding fuel to the fire.
He added that as cases will rise deaths will also increase as hospitals are once again receiving several patients suffering from pneumonia.
He added that at present testing is mostly being done for the original strain and there is a need for robust genetic sequencing to check for mutants. (KNO)
