Flouting government orders, cab drivers overcharge commuters

Pulwama: Even after government ordered that cab drivers operating on various routes in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district should not overcharge passengers, the residents of various areas of south Kashmir have accused the cab drivers of overcharging.
Passengers from different areas of Pulwama said that despite clear cut directions from government the cab drivers resort to overcharging and there is no one to take action against them.
Residents of Koil Pulwama said that for just few kilometers of travel from Awantipora, they are forced to pay 45 Rupees.
They said they have brought this issue to the notice of concerned higher ups but to no avail.
Meanwhile, residents of Murran and Litter area of Pulwama district have also accused the cab drivers operating on Sangam Pulwama and Pulwama to Rohmoo and Kangan routes that they are charging extra fare from the passengers.
They said that issue of overcharging fare often leads to heated arguments between passengers and drivers but to no avail and the authorities are still not taking any action.
Locals said that time and again they have informed the concerned higher ups to look into the matter but to no avail.
Similar complaint are there from other districts of south Kashmir and they also accuse the cab drivers of overcharging commuters.
They said that drivers continue to charge extra fare on almost every route in the area but authorities have failed to ease the suffering of people.
Locals appealed Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and RTO Kashmir to look into the matter and act tough against the cab drivers who are involved in overcharging so that passengers can heave a sigh of relief.
Despite repeated attempts, ARTO Kashmir was not available for his comments.
