Anantnag: The residents of Shalnard in Kokernag belt of Anantnag on Saturday said that sub center in the area lacks all basic facilities. The locals demanded immediate upgradation of the health centre to PHC.
Locals said that a sub center for the village was sanctioned in 1986 and since then it is operating from a residential house without any facilities.
They said that residents of Shalnard and its adjacent areas are forced to visit SDH Kokernag or DH Anantnag even for minor ailments.
“This not only takes toll on us but we also have to wait for long hours to meet a medico,” the locals added.
“Nothing has changed in the center since the last four decades in terms of facilities and locals continue to suffer,” Nadeem Ahmad, a local resident rued.
He said that locals have even shown land to higher ups for construction of PHC in the village but as of now nothing has been done.
Locals said that there is only one ANM posted along with one class IV employee and apart from vaccinating children on every Wednesday, nothing is done there.
They added that the elderly people, children and pregnant ladies are suffering badly in absence of health care facilities.
They said that they have taken up the issue with several top officials of the district, but to no avail.
They once again requested higher ups to look into the matter and upgrade the sub center to PHC and provide basic health facilities there.
On contacting CMO Anantnag Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, he said that a team will be sent there to inspect the area to check whether it is feasible for PHC or not.
He added that health care facilities are being provided to the area.
