Golden cards at SKIMS not honoured: Patients
Srinagar: The golden cards issued by the government seems to have no takers at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) as the attendants here have complained that no benefits are being provided to them despite completing all the formalities.
A number of attendants alleged that they were provided no relief through the golden cards issued by the government.
Sheeraz Ahmad, an attendant from Minigam Ganderbal, whose patient was admitted at SKIMS maternity ward on March 22, said that despite completing all the formalities, the hospital authorities didn’t entertain the golden card.
“Soon after arriving at the hospital, we completed all the formalities, our golden card number and other things were recorded at the counter here, but still, we had to pay for each and every medicine and other related things,” Ahmad said.
Ahmad said when he raised the matter with the hospital authorities, he was told that the benefits through the golden card are being provided to only those patients who undergo surgery in five days when they are admitted at the hospital.
“One fails to understand why long queues were being witnessed outside the golden card centres when the patients do not get any benefit out of it in the hospital,” he said.
Some of the attendants, who were accompanying the other patients in the same ward echoed similar views and demanded authorities to look into the matter and ensure that every patient is benefitted through the golden card as promised by the government.
Meanwhile, PRO SKIMS, Kulsooma when contacted, said that there is lack of awareness among the people which is resulting in confusion over several things and procedures with regard to golden card.
“We have been providing every single benefit, which has to be provided to the patents through golden card,” she said, adding that every medicine and other related things are not free of cost through the golden card. (KNO)
