Cop killed in road mishap at Qazigund, driver held

Srinagar: An Assistant Sub Inspector of Traffic police was killed on Thursday after being hit by a unknown Truck at Bonigam crossing in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
A senior police official said that around 3 am tonight an unknown truck hit one traffic police man identified as SO Bonigam ASI Mohammad Shafi Bhat son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat resident of Shangus, Anantnag, resulting on spot death of traffic the cop.
The officer further said that the truck driver fled from the scene, the traffic movement was stopped and search for identification of vehicles was started in Qazigund area.
During searches a suspected truck was found at Chimulla Qazigund.
Meanwhile, police later said that it acted promptly and arrested the driver involved in the crime.
A team led by SHO Qazigund after strenuous efforts intercepted the involved vehicle (truck) bearing registration number JK22B-4365 along with the accused driver from Choimulla area of Anantnag. He has been identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat resident of Sangrama Sopore.”
He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle involved in the crime has also been seized, a police spokesman said.
A case FIR No. 51/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at PS Qazigund regarding the incident and further investigation of the case is in progress, the spokesman added.
