Corporators locked Corporate Hall’ at SMC office
‘Commissioner SMC was scheduled to preside over a meeting’
Srinagar: Commissioners Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was unable to preside over a meeting after some Corporators locked the ‘Corporate Hall’ claiming Ward Officers and Building Inspectors have no right to occupy the ‘Hall’ exclusively reserved for them.
Sources said that the newly appointed Commissioner Athar Amir Khan had called a meeting at ‘Corporate Hall’. Almost all the Ward Officers and Building Inspectors had arrived to participate in the meeting.
“We were waiting for the Commissioner, when some Corporators entered into the Hall and asked us to leave. As we left, they locked the Hall, saying it is their property and the Commissioner can’t preside a meeting in their Hall,” a Ward Officer said, wishing anonymity.
Another Ward Officer said they faced humiliation while Commissioner and other officials after knowing about the incident didn’t turn up for the meeting and it was subsequently cancelled.
Terming the incident very unfortunate, Deputy Mayor Parvez Qadri said that matter will be looked into. (KNT)
