110 fined for violating traffic rule, COTPA

Srinagar: In its continued drive police booked 110 persons for violating traffic rules while 57 were challaned for smoking at public places in summer capital, Srinagar, a police spokesman said.
He said during the day-long drive on Tuesday police acting tough on the violatiors of Motor Vehicle Act and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) in Srinagar conducted checking at several places.
With this over 300 persons were challaned for violating traffic rules and more than 150 for smoking at public places in Srinagar during the past five days.
He said a total of 110 persons have been booked challans under various sections for violating the traffic rules.
He said 57 challans have been registered against persons smoking at public places and violating the COTPA rules.
Public have appreciated the efforts of Srinagar Police in keeping a close check on the violators and is ensuring a safe movement of public on roads and a healthy stay at public places.
However, there was no action against those not wearing masks in the city. The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has warned that anyone found not wearing masks will be fined.
