Gulmarg freezes at minus 6.2°C as mercury rises in other parts across Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 1: The minimum temperature dropped to minus 6.2°C in Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, even as the mercury increased in most parts of the valley, the weatherman said on Monday.
A meteorological department official said that Gulmarg, the venue for the ongoing second Khelo India Winter Games, registered a drop of two notches from previous night and the minimum temperature was almost minus 0.4°C below the normal for this time of the year.
Srinagar recorded a low of 1.4°C against 2.1°C on the previous night. The temperature was minus 0.1°C below the normal for this time of the year in this summer capital, the official said.
Qazigund recorded a low of 4.0°C against 2.3°C on the previous night while the mercury settled at 0.7 °C at the famous resort of Pahalgam against minus 0.6 on the earlier night.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 2.6°C against 0.4°C on the previous night.
The minimum temperature settled at 0.4°C in Kupwara against minus 0.1°C on the previous night, the official said.
The weatherman has forecast dry weather for couple of days and isolated rains on March 3 and 4 besides fairly widespread rains on March 6 and 7 respectively. (GNS)
