Pulwama: The residents of Lassipora belt in Pulwama district are up in arms against the Power Development Department for failing to provide scheduled power supply facility in the area.
The locals of Lassipora, Nowpora, Hajidarpora, Allaiepora, Achan, Panjran, Niloora, Litter, Takiya, Bhatnoora, Armulla, Gadbug and its adjacent areas said that they are fed up of unscheduled power cuts in the area.
“We were expecting that as spring has arrived we will get better power supply but with each passing day frequent power cuts are increasing in the area,” Muzamil Ahmad, a local resident said.
However, instead of ensuring regular power supply, the Power Development Department is resorting to frequent cuts in these areas, he added.
“We spend evenings in complete darkness, due to frequent power cuts,” he said adding, that the unscheduled curtailments are hampering the studies of our children preparing for different exams.
Locals said that every time we are being assured by higher ups that very soon we will get scheduled power supply but these promises are never kept.
They said besides unscheduled power cuts, dangling wires and wooden poles are posing threat to the lives of the people.
The residents have appealed District Administration and officials of the PDD department to look into the matter and provide proper power supply to the area.
Executive engineer PDD Pulwama Nazir Ahmad, when contacted said that due to heavy load, there are more power cuts in winter, however, spring is about to come and the officials will ensure scheduled power supply everywhere.
“We urge the people to cooperate and not indulge in misuse of power by using high-voltage electronic devices including heaters and boilers during peak hours so that power supply is provided as per schedule,” he said.
