Shopian: The residents of Malibugh village in Imamsahib belt of Shopian are up in arms against the Jal Shakti Department citing scarcity of potable water since the past 10 years.
The locals complained that they are not being supplied drinking water since the past ten years despite the village falling very near to district headquarters.
“Due to non availability of water we are forced to drink contaminated water due to which many locals are suffering from different diseases,” the locals said.
They said that they brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
“Several times we have staged protests after which officials have assured that our village will be provided potable drinking water. But after the passage of time the officials forget about their promises and all their promises prove hoax,” they added.
“We are facing manifold problems due to non-availability of drinking water but nobody cares for the common people,” Junaid Ahmad, a local resident said.
“The matter was brought into the notice of Jal Shakti Department Shopian, but nothing has been done till today”, he added.
Locals urged the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha to direct the concerned department for providing drinking water to the residents.
Executive engineer Jal Shakti Division Shopian Irfan Ahmad said that every household which is without drinking water facility will get water in coming months.
