Awareness Program on HIV/AIDS & Drug De-addiction held

Srinagar: A day long awareness program was conducted at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar on 4th February 2021. The event was organized by Al-Habib Foundation in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society. Theme for the program was “Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility on HIV/AIDS”.
The inaugural address was by made by Principal, BHSS Jawahar Nagar, a statement issued by the organizers said.
It said that students were made aware of medical, psychological, and social inferences of HIV/AIDS and drug abuse by various experts.
Dr. Riyaz Ahmad Daga, trustee Al-Habib Foundation and spokesperson DAK, talked about medical aspects of the disease and its relation to drug abuse. He was followed by Sahaf Qadri, Clinical Psychologist, who focused on the abusers’ emotional and psychological health.
The event was presented by Shaista Shah, also a Clinical Psychologist. Dr Rumaisa representing the AIDS Control Society of Kashmir, graced the program with her presence. The event was properly advocated and organized by Tasleema Shah, Chairperson and Er. Malik Asif, General Secretary of Al-Habib Foundation.
The organizers duly thanked Principal, BHSS, Jawahar Nagar, Showkat Ahmad, teacher at BHSS, experts and doctors who spoke on the occasion and the volunteers for rightly cooperating on hosting and conducting the event successfully. Guests were presented with mementos after the program.
Proper safety precautions, in view of COVID-19, were taken, the statement added.
