Acute water shortage triggers protest in Sopore village

Sopore: Scores of inhabitants including women from Logripora Bomai area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for ‘failing’ to provide them regular water supply.
Holding empty water pots and shouting slogans against district administration and Jal Shakti department the women protesters of the area said that the residents are facing water shortage since last many years and the department is forcing them to drink contaminated water from open streams and ponds.
Aisha Bano, one of the protesters said that the local residents approached the concerned officials many times but nothing was done in this regard.
“We are being forced to drink dirty and contaminated water, which has affected our health mostly our elders and children aree falling sick,” Aisha said.
Meanwhile, when contacted officials of Jal Shakti Department Sopore said that the grievances of the people will be resolved soon as the department will come up with a water supply line towards the locality so that their sufferings will come to an end.
