Shopian village lacks road connectivity, locals appeal for help

Shopian: Sanimarg, a village in Keller Tehsil of Shopian district is without road connectivity. The absence of a road link is making the lives of the locals miserable who have now appealed the higher authorities to connect the village with the road network.
The villagers said that they have to travel at least two kms by foot to reach the nearest motorable road.
“From the last seven decades, this village has gone unnoticed and the local authorities too have forgotten to provide some relief to the inhabitants of Sanimarg,” Abdul Rahim, a local resident said.
“We have no other choice than to carry our old aged and sick people on our shoulders in case of any emergency,” he said.
Abdul Rashid, another local said that the tall claims of government that basic facilities like road connectivity is their foremost priority seems a joke for the people here as no one has bothered since the past seven decades to visit us and enquire about our needs.
“On one side we have Gatipora village while as on the other side we have Sheikhpatri village and both villages are 2 Kms from Sanimarg and from both sides there is no road connectivity to this village,” he added.
Locals also alleged that RDD department had constructed a rough road to provide connectivity to this area but due to accumulation of snow the area remains cut off with rest of the world for over six months.
They added that in absence of road connectivity many patients have died en route to the hospital, still, no attention is being provided towards the needs of the people.
“My wife as well as my son died on way to hospital as we were unable to take them to a hospital,” said Abdul Hamid, another local resident.
Locals said in winters their problems get worse as the children cannot leave their homes and study.
“Even the daily rations that we need are ferried on our shoulders so that we can survive during the winter period,” said another local.
The locals said that the issue was brought into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They said that they have been neglected by politicians as well by officials on every front and their promises on ground have proved a hoax.
